Vette(s): 1979, 350sb, as my kids affectionately call it "shit brown" Corvette purchased in 1996. 84,000+ miles. Not a show car, but I love her just the same.
I plan to do this within the next year or two on my 79. THe way I see it is you can take the time to do it right yourself or rely on someone who really doesn't care as much about your car as you do.
Believe me, people can give you all the promises in the world about how well they'll take care of your car, and how good a job they'll do for you, but no one can tackle the matter like a proud owner who won't settle for second best.
I plan on buying an A.I.M. book soon (Assembly Instruction Manual) as well as one of the favorite restoration publications so that I can learn to become a garage mechanic. Or at least hope to. No one will ever do as good a job on my Corvette as I will - count on it!
With carpet patterns that you can purchase from CC and MADirect, etc. this should not be a major task. Besides you have the great people of this here group to help you along the way.

Just replace the carpet in my CE this winter. Not hard at all. Got mine directly from ACC and just had to trim it a bit. One piece of advice. Make sure you get heat barrier (foil lined) to put under the carpet. Your legs will thank you for it in the future. if you need any help, don't hesitate to ask.
I just replaced the carpet in my '78 last year. It's a tedious job because of the back deck doors and around the consol, but I agree that only you can do it best and give it the time it deserves. You may need to purchase new plastic trim for the back deck doors since you can't take the old stuff off without breaking the old trim since mine was heat sealed.
Also buy a good quality replacement and definitely install the heat shielding under the carpet.
Good luck.....

I just started on my 77' along with weatherstripping while I am at it. After the second night I had the interior (except for the dash) and all the trim and carpet taken out. I just finished the passenger side door weather stripping. Looks like it is going to take a while, but at least I know it'll be right. Tackle it yourself... just take your time and get some little zip lock baggies and a sharpie to keep up w/ all the little screws from here and there.

I agree the project is a pretty easy one to get done . Take your time to research who has the best quality carpet available . You will thank your self later ! Also think about buying a new interior screw set as the old ones tend to get boogered up a bit .

Hi Norm: I read your forum on carpet replacement. I have a 79 that has grey interior carpet and white total interior. I am redoing the entire car in black including the carpet. I would like to see your instructions and how you did it. I need some help as I'm doing it myself including the seats. Can you send me an e mail...thanks Flora
