I did the back first. The section behind the seats goes over them, but must be left loose where front carpet tucks under it. (I left front carpets for last because I didn't want to get them dirty when I removed and replaced my old weatherstrips.) This worked well for me. I used the Permatex Carpet and Headliner adhesive on carpet, and insulation. Stuck real well. Where I left edge loose to tuck front under, I used Hot Glue gun. This seemed to also work very well. Good luck it's not difficult, just take your time and get all of the different areas as tight as you can while glue is not fully set.

I'm also in the process of replacing my carpet and purchased the original underlayment to help with heat and sound. Has anyone else installed this? My questions involve the the rear deck and wall piece. Both were pre-cut and neither fill the entire area so are they just centered leaving gaps around the borders or should they join at some place? The rear piece has extensions and cutouts for what looked like the rubber carpet fasteners, but they don't line up. |headscratch|

Replaced my carpet last spring. A few tips, I guess by now you have the seats out and seat belt latches out. Not sure about yours, for my 80 I took out he center console, there are two side pieces on the 80 that had to be covered. Also the kick pannels are carpeted. It also required the removal of the rear speaker grils and the door sills. It is very important to be sure the underlayment is flat and seated well with no gaps or buldges, it will show up in the carpet. Then as others have said lay it out in the sun and soften. Place it in position and put the car in the shade. After it has cooled cut off the excess. Then take it out, I used contact cement, coating both the underside of the carpet and the underlayment. A friend used the 3M and every time the car sits in the sun the glue gets tacky again and the carpet gets loose. After waiting about 15 min, very carefully place the carpet in the car (get it right before you apply any pressure. Once in place use a rubber roller to stick the carpet to the underlayment. The roller gets rid of wrinkles too. After about 72 hours put the car back together and it will be perfect. Once again be sure you carfully place the carpet after the glueing. I got the roller from Home Depot, its a laminate roller.

Good luck it is a fair amount of work. If you get time stop by the on line show and vote for milkman.

Thanks Glenn
