Hey Guys,
Where is the circuit board/module mounted that controls the center console gauges? Is it just a plug and play replacement and is it very hard to get at? Before I start to replace a couple quirky individual gauges I thought I would give that a try first and see what happens. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

The circuit board is a printed circuit attached to back of the gauge cluster, it's not overly difficult to get to, just a little aggravating. The link below shows what it looks like, all the major vendors have them.

Vette(s): 1982 C3 Collectors Edition 44000 miles, sat in the sun most of its life, My wife purchased it for me for Father's Day in 2007 from her girlfriend that had it for 19 years. It is on the road again. I'm retired but it is now my daily driver.
I have a drawing of the circuit that will allow you to actually check it out if I can find it. (no promise that I can do that) If you replace it be careful that you not the gauges and the insulation washers where they go. Also the shunts (those ceramic looking items that go across the gauges. They have colored strips on them that tell you what the resistance is. They were used to calibrate the gauge. Mix them up and your gauge readings will be off.
How do I know all of this. It is because I screwed it up but was lucky enough to have Steve's Vets 3 miles from my house and he let me take one he had home with me so I could figure out what I did wrong. You most likely do not have a used parts house close enough to you that will let you take a part home for a week or so. So you can figure out how you screwed up.
Have not found the drawing yet (I will look again later) but did find a complete set of pictures that I took when I repaired my gauge cluster. If you what them PM me with an email address that I can send them to you on. there are about 18 of them. So I do not want to post them on the forum.

Thanks for the info about hooking the new one up. I take it that it's not as easy as unplugging the old board and plugging the new one in. Is there soldering involved or is it held in with screws/nuts or something like that?
KC

Hi KC, There is no soldering involved in replacing the board, it is held by screws and nuts to the back of the gauges. The board itself has no electronics, it is there to conduct power, ground and signal to the gauges instead of using wires. You can inspect it for cracks or corrosion on the copper strips. If the copper looks clean and the plastic board is not cracked, then most likely the gauges themselves, or the sending units to the gauges, are in need of testing or replacement.

Here's a diagram from Willcox Corvette of the '77-'82 board layout. Their webpages are very helpful with tech issues.
