Been doing some work on the project car. The last owner was a big smoker (thats what killed him) and the interior really smells like an ashtray. I plan on getting a new carpet set when we go to MAM for our gathering in 2011.
In the mean time any ideas?

I smoked for 40 years.  Then I got my 81 and stopped!!!  I am an ex smoker now and one of the worst people to talk to about the smoking genre !!  Ebo, use vinigar with glass cleaner to get the film off the windows.  I will ask the wife, she knows all about how to remove smoke smell!!!!  In the meantime :  Are you going to MAM for vette fest this year??  Will I finally get to met the "great" ebo or will I have to wait until 2011???

The detail shop uses an Ozone machine that kills all odors..I have seen it work..they run it in the car for a day with windows shut..I know that they take apart center consoles and anything they can to clean underneath them..that tar crap goes everywhere..if you find a good detail shop that has one they don't charge much to use it if that is all they are doing..try cleaning the glass with an ammonia based windex glass cleaner..I have even seen them use a razor blade to scrape it off with windex...hope its not that bad though..I hate smoker cars!
See you next week! I will take a wiff at it then!

Dan'0 guna ave ta wait till 2011 bud, summer is closing fast. No complaints its been a GRRReeaattt Summer!

Rich, my "old friend" never used a lighter he lit the next one off the old one. I will not have the Red one next week. We will be drivin the "Virgin".

I'll check into that ozone machine, when it gets humid you can really smell the smoke. I detailed an old fishermens International Scout once. He used to smoke cigars. I think some times it was dried out turds. Well I did some bondo and paint work on the outside, and moma cleaned the inside. The razor blade bit brought back memmories, as that is what she used on all the windows. Good idea about cleaning under the counsol and dash areas. See ya in just a few days.

There are several ways to rid the smell young Master Ebo... Lemme offer a few fun and righteous ways to Get Er Done

1. Start smokin yerself..... You'll never notice it form then on. Honest
2. Ummmn, A nice mixture of Dawn dish soap and and your favorite soft scented fabric softener.
3. Leather Seats / dash / Door Panels... Lemon Pledge
4. Cut a Pine Branch and place it under the seats / close the door roll up the winderz, park in the sun.
5. Buy all new interior it will smell like $$$$$

                                                                                                      Tux...

Vette(s): 1982 C3 Collectors Edition 44000 miles, sat in the sun most of its life, My wife purchased it for me for Father's Day in 2007 from her girlfriend that had it for 19 years. It is on the road again. I'm retired but it is now my daily driver.
You forgot the easiest and least expensive way.  Go to the drug store or supper market.  Drug stores have shorter lines normally.  GO to the area that sells cold medicine and purchase a small jar of Vicks Vaper Rub.

Do not use a lot now.  About all you will need will fit on the end of your little finger.  Put some on your little finger and then put it in your nose.  It will clear your head and hide the smell.

Tux, I wet myself on that first one!LOL I so love you guysClap
I figure the only way to get most of the smell out is to replace the whole carpet set. Plus the drivers leather seat will need a new hide put on it. I was just hopin to do sumptin in the mean time. I have lots of pine branches.LOL

Vette(s): White '79 Corvette. It's a driver.

ebo,

I haven't had a smoke for almost 2 months now. I'll be payin' close attention to what gives you the best results.

Actually, when I clean the windows with "Stoner's" brand glass cleanor the whole car smells clean and smoke free.

Let us know what works best for you and I hope I'll see you before this Corvette season is over.

Kevin
