Vette(s): 1982 Corvette Collector Edition - 450 mile original!

Hey folks, I think someone is asking me a trick question :-)

I've got a guy asking me to take a picture of my console plate on my '82 CE.  The cars has 454 miles, and is an untouched original.

But I don't think the '82 cars had one.  I've had a few 80-82 Vettes, and never once saw a console plate.

By console plate, I mean that metal tag that you'd find on the early 70's cars between the shifter and parking brake.  It would show engine size, horsepower, etc.

Did any '82 ever have one?

Don't believe any Vettes had them since the early '70s. What they might mean is a badge mounted on the console bezel saying it's a special edition. The '78 Pace Cars had such an animal (I have one, but have never mounted it in my '78 Silver Anniversary). Maybe they think your CE has one as well.

Our '82 CE's nor any '82's have those console plates nor anything like that but I know they had those like the early '70's.   If that is what they are asking.

Did you let them take a photo??

either trick question (they are trying to catch you) or someone who doesn't know what they are talking about.  None of my 82CE brochures or GM documentation talks/shows any type of plate.  The entire 82CE was unique with its paint/decal and special interior leather.  I think this buyer doesn't know what he is buying -- scary...

If I'm not mistaken, I beleive the 78 was the last year to have a dash plaque like your talking about. Heres a picture of the hardest find for my shift console rebuild

That's what I have and was talking about. I never installed in in my car as it's a Silver Anniversary, not a Pace Car it was intended for.

I'm really surprised there wasn't one made for the Silver Annversary.

I looked at a 78silver anniversary last year that had the Pace Car "limited edition" decals on the front fenders. The owner, who bought it new, told me how he paid a premium price for it because it was a "special" SA. Guess the dealers did whatever they could to increase their profits! $5 decals make for a big markup.   Mike

Thanks for the info - Good to be amongst experts!  I've told the guy that asked me that they didn't exist in '82, but haven't heard back.  If he doesn't believe me, I'll just point him here :-)
