Hey Guys,
I took my console apart last weekend to replace my upper and lower shifter boots and I have a quick question. Is that a flasher I see on the wiring harness that runs down the center of the driveshaft tunnel and what is the relay looking thing for in the harness that mounts just to the left of the flasher? Before you say it, I do have a shop manual for my car. I'm just lazy and thought I would ask the masters on this site before I dig in and look it up. Is it the emergency flasher as opposed to the signal flasher which I know is mounted up on the firewall inside.
Thanks in advance for your responses.
Keith

Probably the alarm flasher and relay...

Alarms were standard starting in '72...
The arming switch is on the driver side fender until sometime in the '77 model year, I think. After that, it was incorporated into the door lock.

Correct, Joel! 78 and up the alarm is in the driver's door lock. It only arms if you actually put the key in the lock and turn it to the locked position, NOT with the interior locks! To turn it off you have to turn the drivers lock to the unlock position. hth

Too many integrated parts. The small electronic units are so much more efficient.

Cool, thanks for the info everyone! After taking my interior somewhat apart I have to say that GM cheaped out on some of their building materials back in the day but I'm sure all of the Big 3 were the same way. And I know, the car is 33 years old for goodness sake! I'm just sayin'.......

Vette(s): 1982 C3 Collectors Edition 44000 miles, sat in the sun most of its life, My wife purchased it for me for Father's Day in 2007 from her girlfriend that had it for 19 years. It is on the road again. I'm retired but it is now my daily driver.
All of Detroit just did enough to sell the car back then. Lots of cheap work done. Some great engineering but some really (shoddy) work and parts used at times.
Not just talking about Corvettes. I'm talking about a number of cars I owned that were in from late 1960's until the mid 1980's. Until Japan started importing there was not much quality build into Detroit iron monsters.
There were some monsters build and they ran fast. Some friends of mine had a couple of Chevy’s that did their duty at Fremont Drags. We ogled at corvettes tell ourselves they were wasted on the old men that were driving them. Of course only the old men (30+) could afford them. They always seemed to have have good looking women with them.
