Vette(s): 1978 Silver Anniversary Coupe Lt. Biege w/ Dark Brown Int. Happily owned since 1981.
I was thinking about replacing the dash in my 78. Is it necessary to remove the windshield for the top part of the dash where the speakers are? Are there any publications out there that outline the steps involved for removal & proper installation? Thanks.

You don't need to remove the windshield. You do need to flex the dash top a bit to remove it. If you attempt to do this when it's cold you can crack it.

Larry is correct.
 I replaced mine in the '81 a few years back. It's really not bad to do. Just be patient. You might want to buy an AIM manual for your '78. It's a good reference to have if your going to redo things on the vette.

I have been working on repaiting my instruments and removed the dash recently. You need to remove both side 'A' pillar trim panels and as 'Corvette 440HP' says, flex it a bit in warm weather and you are set. Amazing how those engineers packaged all that stuff under there without CAD!

I replaced my dash while the windsheild was out. It was great, no flexing or cracking. If you could use a new windsheild i would do dash at same time. I got lucky there is a guy in my hometown that put a new one in for $160.00 (windsheid and labor, unreal huh).
