You cannot tell from the vin if the car is a small or big block car. Take a look to see if it has a rear sway bar. All 68 big blocks came with a rear sway bar. The sure fire way is to look at the tank sticker or protect o plate. You can also look at the tach. If you tell us what the redline on the tach is, then we can decode the engine. Also, all big blocks for 68 with the exception of the L88 did not come with a radiator overflow tank, so if it has the tank on the passenger side, then that is an indication that it was a small block car. Does the vin # on the block match the car? Even if it does, that is not a guarantee that its the original engine. It could be a restamp. Does the vin number on the transmission match the car also. The number is stamped vertical on the passenger side of the transmission about midway back. Hope this helps. If you get us some of the information, we can decode it.
