What is the best thing to use to hold the plastic door barrier in place between the door and the interior door panel?

3M caulking strips, it is what GM used. I get mine from NAPA or the Automotive paint supply shop in town.

I use duct tape also. If it's good enough for the space shuttle, it's good enough for me!!

Duct tape works to hold it up/to the door, but it's not really a good, solid seal. The strip caulk will conform to the contour of the door, and allow the barrier to fit nice and tight. Either method will work, but the caulk is better, in the long run, plus, if you need to remove the barrier for any reason, the caulk is still re-usable.

Go with the strips, the duct tape works but will dry up after awhile and all you will have is some gooo all over the door panel.

I definitely prefer the 3M caulk strip. The duct tape is a bear to get off after a year or so.

Do you recommend purchase of plastic door barrier or just use some type of plastic cut to fit?
