This morning when I began to open the driver's door, I heard a "clunk" when I pushed down on the (outer) door handle. That was followed by something falling down inside the door's interior. The outer door handle no longer works. The inside still works fine.
I want to remove the inside driver's door panel so I can take a look.
I have a manual knob for the driver's door mirror. This knob appears to hook up to a cable. It is surrounded by a metal bezel that I can unscrew from the door panel.
Question is;
How do I disconnect the cable from the knob to allow the door panel to come all the way off? (I have to get the door panel past the mirror control knob.)

Thanks in advance.

I think the set screw is on the back side of the joystick bezel. If you pull the panel out far enough to look behind, you'll prolly see it.

On all my vettes, the door panels hole for the mirror control bezel will allow that piece to pass back through the panel when turned sideways and diagonally. I've never tried to disassemble but yes, the set screw is there.

Correct.

I just could not locate that set screw. However, I did what Ace said and I was able to slide it through the door panel.
Now I have to take it slow and try to get to that outside door handle. It looks tricky but doable.
Wish me luck!
