Vette(s): Silver 1974 Convertible - L82 4 speed Low miles (was only 8,900 when I bought it in March 2006) - Now 54K miles. Original owner bought it as an investment for son's college expenses. 2008 Jetstream Blue Convertible
I hate to put this out there, but I need an answer and I can't see my car currently.

What is the correct red-line for the tach on my car?  It is a '74 L-82 with A/C.  I have options of 5300, 5500 or 6K.  I beleive it is the 5500, but just not sure.  Per the interchange manual, it would be the same as the tach for the 454 for that year.

L-48 and L-82 without A/C were both different, so understanding those could potentially help as well (my guess is L-48 is 5300 and L-82 w/o A/C is 6K)

Thanks

I'm thinking 5600.  I don't think anything with hydraulic lifters had a 6000 redline.

When I got home tonight, I dug through some pictures, and although it looks closer to 5600, I figure it is the 5500.

Thanks everyone

Vette(s): 1978 Silver Anniversary Edition - Custom
Hi, I'm BRAND SPANKING NEW here, and have no idea how this posting business goes......But speaking of DUMB questions, I have one!

Can someone please tell me how to remove the ash tray receptacle from a 1978 Silver Anniversary Edition? It seems to be catching on something right before I am able to totally remove it. Is there a trick to it that I'm just not seeing?

Please help!  Thanks! :)

Hi Wendy, Welcome to C3VR! The ashtray should pull straight up. Try rocking it side-to-side as you pull up. Let us know if you are still stuck or if you need help with anything else.

+1 ^
There is a spring clip on the side of the ashtray insert. Just make sure it's not catching on the side of the console so nothing gets damaged.

Just checked mine - the spring clip is on one of the long sides of the ashtray.  It should just pull out with a little tug.  Smile  No such thing as dumb questions.
