Does anybody out there have emissions inspections in their home state? We don't down here in the Sunshine State.....yet. My '72 is mildly modified and the A.I.R.Pump is long-gone, so frankly, I'd doubt very much it would pass. I've heard the more experienced wrench turners say there are ways of making these cars more emissions-friendly by de-tuning or adding something to your gas. Is this true or myth? Don't know if I'm worrying for nothing, but I'd love to hear from anyone with similar worries. Thanks!

I'm not sure you should worry about it. Here in Maryland we have emission inspections, but cars that have "classic" registration (over 25 years old) are exempt from it. I would think if your state ever goes that way it will likely have a similar exemption. Keep an eye on proposals for such legislation and make sure an exemption is included should it go that way.

I took my air pump off and still passed in Ohio. we also have collector plates here which exempt you from testing.

Hopefully, the 'Classic Car" exemption is a trend all other states will follow. Thank you, Sir!

Among other subjects I teach, I am a State of Ohio Emission trainer for techs who wish to be repair certified. The federal standard is over 25 years old is exempt from testing. California is different. Anywhere else won't matter.

If you retard the timing, and lean the fuel mixture a touch, then add dry gas (not iso) you will clean up emissions just a touch. But there is no need to try.
