Todd,
Looks great.

If you could find a wood-grained wheel that matches the console, I think it would look good.
The problem with the white leather wrapped wheel is it will show the dirt and wear, unless you always wear white driving gloves.
My original wheel is in the basement and will go with the car if she ever gets sold. After 20+ years and 90K miles, it was looking real grungy.
The dark gray wheel would be a good choice too, IMHO.

That's a real nice job Tod. I never saw side panels like that, I thought they all had carpet on them. Yours looks real rich

The side console panels are leather in my car too, as they all were until the interior was redesigned in '78. (I looked online at interiors from '68-'78 to make sure.)
At that time they switched to a carpet covered console, which I know doesn't hold up that well. (Had a '79 and a '81, and in both it didn't fit very well, faded fast, and was very flimsy.)
Hope that clears up the differences in the consoles.
Todd, I do like the way the '79 seats look in your vette. Did you have to do any mods to get them to fit, or was everything a standard size?Bry58501 2007-09-20 13:53:23
Forgive me if I'm a heretic but I think I'll try that look on my '78.
Yeah!!! I had no idea they were different! I'm going to go that route. It would just plain look nicer than the carpet covered pizza box's. I'm just bitter cause I had to buy new ones.
You don't get a lot of bang for your buck on those things.

Bolt out bolt in,I just bought used 79 seats (they were beige) painted the fiberglass shells and ordered pads with leather installed. The mounting bolt holes line up perfectly.Best part is when you sit in them compared to the older seats.
Nice job Todd !! Makes me want to go out and start on mine !!
Okay well now that everyone has given you all the warm and fuzzy replies, I am just going to go for the throat. I think it looks like crap. Such a crappy job I think you need to come to my house and try to do a better job using mine as the test vette, that way I can watch you while you do the work and to encourage you along the way so when you are done and finished I can let everyone know that you learn how to do a better job the second one you did. Man I am glad that is off my chest.
really TOD it is very nicely done. hello to you and vicki

Very nice Todd
You did an awsome job.

If you ask me Black just wouldn't look right, looks to me like your current wheel is actually Oyster, but I could be wrong don't really remember seeing it in the sunlight. In my opinion I think maybe the Silver Pace colored steering wheel would look good in there, but then again I might be alittle bias
Whichever you choose willl look good as long as its not Black.
