The Gear indicator in my 74 automatic has been missing since I bought it. Not a big deal, but an inconvenience for the wife. I took the console cover off and there is no sign of it. I am talking about the little red or orange pointer that tells you what gear you are in. What is it connected to? I have not seen them listed in any of the aftermarket catalogs.

I've only ever seen them for the 77-82 cars. You might have to go to a recycler. Try Rocky atwww.contemporarycorvette.com They are in the Philly area. He probably has one. Good luck Also on my 82 it is connected to the side of a link assembly where the shifter is mounted

Normand, thanks for the information. I will be calling them today to order the part. I have looked in their current catalog and couldnt find it. In fact, I have looked everywhere except where you found it. Thanks again.

Hey Norm, the Eckler's part number you gave me is for 1977-82 only. It will not work on my 74. The search goes on.

That must be an optional part! My 73 is missing its pointer, too. Fortunately it's not too hard to tell what gear you are in. Joe
Here is the scoop. I just talked to Rocky at Contemporary Corvettes. He told me that 74's dont have a pointer, you just line them up with the shift plate. That may be the same for your 73.

Hmmm. That's interesting. You learn something new every day. The good thing is that you are right that it is easy to see which gear you are in with our shiftplates. I never look at mine anyway. I just listen for the clicks.

71's don't have a gear pointer either. I thought mine should've had one when I bought mine 12 years ago, but found out that they never did.
