Hi, just got back from pick & pull. Which version of this seat belt should I be looking for? Coupe or convertible? The coupe belt retracts into the rear roof pillar (up high). The convertible retracts into the top of the B pillar (down low). They didn't have any convertibles there. And no blue belts to be found. This might be a tricky one to locate.....
Thanks,
Dave
Thanks,

Back seat? Is it long enough for the seat to be tilted forward without it running of belt? Interesting.....hope someone can say for sure. I think I'm gonna miss the half price sale at P and P. But then again....there aint no blue to be found. Corvette American has single retractor conversions for $259. And they have blue. but...damn, with new seat covers, foam and belts I'm hitting grand. Be nice to make the $17 belts work some how.

Dave,
Do some searching and you'll find lots of info on this installation. Here's a quote from a post on the Corvette Forum.
"Get a rear seatbelt set from a mid to late 90's Camaro and put that in instead. It's a 1 piece shoulder/lap belt and it's much easier to use with the newer seats."

The problem is, if your '72 came with the shoulder harness option, the shoulder belt goes THRU the seatback. There's really no way to do that with the one-piece retractables out of the Camaro/Fireturd. I know Brian(redwingvette) used them in his '73, but again..they don't go thru the seatback. The shoulder harness on the later cars('73>) run up to the side of the "B" pillar, and then down to the top of the wheel wheel, where the retractor mechanism is bolted. The lap belt retractor is bolted under the seat.
Decisions decisions....
Dangit...after I posted this, I went and looked at Brian's set-up, and HIS DO go thru the seat backs! Never noticed that before....I'm gettin too old for this.....

Light Tan (93-02 Camaro/Firebird) 1999 Formula rear seat belts installed.Receivers are out of the rear of a Trans Am (the belts I got off Ebay came without the receivers). To install:
1. Remove seats
2. Pull back carpet from under seats
3. Remove plastic cover
4. Remove re-tractor
5. Remove seat belt support bar (this holds the seat belt out from under the seat by the sill.
6. Remove the rear quarter side panel.
7. Remove the shoulder belt re-tractor cover from the quarter panel.
8. Remove the re-tractor.
9. Re-install the quarter panel.
10. Bolt new re tractor in place.
11. Remove the old receiver and attach the new one.
12. Remove the buckle from the seat belt.
13. Flatten the bracket that will go under the seat (this part is L-shaped and needs to be straight to bolt to the floor).
14. Slip through the hole in the seat and the carpet (place the seat and carpet in but don't bolt in place yet).
15. Re-install the support bar and bolt the bracket to the floor (the hole in the bracket needed to be opened up a little for the bolt to fit, there is no re-tractor under the seat)Make sure the seat-belt will lay correctly when it is connected to the receiver.
16. Replace carpet and seat (the plastic cover is no longer required).
17. Re-install the buckle to the seat belt.
The seat belts have more room than the originals did which helps when my 250+lb. friends get in to go for a ride.

Man I'm glad you caught that cuz I was almost in doubt. The gen 4 camaro belt does go through the seat....Its a rare beast in that regard. I walked the entire pick and pull yard...only a few US convertibles and a couple of Euro cars had belts that ran through the seat back.

My little post above this one was being written as the instructional one was posting :-O so....thank you! that pretty much sums the entire subject up in a single swoop. Now, my only issue....I don't think there is a blue version of the 4th gen seat belts. I'm going to research the Trans Ams a bit...the Camaro with blue paint had a medium gray interior....booooo!
