I am doing some interior refinishing work on my 74 and want to refinish the horn button.  How do I get it off.  Looked in the shop manual with no luck.  Tried depressing it and twisting left and right with no luck.  Any ideas?  Does it just pop off? My steering wheel is the tilt and telescope. THANKS...steve

The horn buton cover is held in place by a round pressed steel mount under the button. It is held there by presure around the edges of the button. The decorative cross flags center of the horn button is just held in place by the rubber lip of the horn button itself. And like Ron said, un-hook your battery first or you'll be blowin the horn all the time you're trying to get it off. LOL Good luck.

Thanks everyone.  Will try to pull it off. Sounds like it might be hard to get off.   What about using a flat tool like a large screwdriver to help pry it off.  Will let you know how it turns out.  And I will disconnect the battery......Thanks....steveClap

LOL  Didn't disconnect my battery and only tooted once. I wouldn't use any type of tool or screwdriver as you may end up scratching your steering column.

It just popped off.  Was real easy to do.  I just applied a little pressure and it came right off.  Didn't even have the battery disconnected.  No horn honk!  But will have to disconnect when I put it back on.  Again....Thanks to Everyone for the info........steve  Thumbs%20Up

Any suggestions on putting it back on without glue?

Hi Mike ! Haven't seen ya since the gathering ( 'course we did leave in opposite directions ) we miss you guys. say hi to Karen for us..... The horn button should snap back on as easy as it came off, providing the receiver's fingers are still in good shape. If not, you may get lucky and lightly bend them back out with one finger, and if that fails you may have to replace that goody. and you must admit, it's nice to have a working horn.
