I bought a new conceal piece for the emergency brake handle where it comes out of the console. I need to get the handle off of the lever to put it on. The handle just slides off, however, the release button prevents the handle from sliding all the way off. I pulled the pin that holds the ratchet lock in place thinking that the whole thing would pull out the center of the brake lever. Don't work. The button does not appear to be threaded on. My question is this. How do I get the @$#*!! button off? Is it pressed on?Do I use a sawsall and hammer? ( Just kidding on that one) Hopfully none of you have ever experienced this, but, know someone who has. Send Help!!!!

darn good (make that excellent) question. i have an extra handle as i ended up replacing the whole assembly because i couldn't get it apart.

The button is press fit, and the rod it goes onto has barbs on it. It is really hard to get the thing off, and you'll be lucky to get it off without damaging it.
The good news is, you don't need to remove it anyway. The e-brake handle "slide" has a small cut in the center of it, to allow you to work it around the handle. Why, you may ax, did they do this? Because the dang button is HARD to get off, once it has been pressed on!
Take a close look at your slide peice(or, as you call it, the "conceal piece", just so we'll be talking about the same part). you'll see a small cut line in the center of the opening one one side. You just open that up, and slip it around the e-brake handle.

you can try leaving it out in the sun and getting it hot makes it more
pliable. when i did mine i did that and i got it over the handle.

i would imagine a hair dryer would be ok as long as you don't melt the
piece. i don't know how fast it heats up. as i was working on mine i
had it setting putside in the sun and to tell you the truth i wasn't
even thinking about it but it was a little more pliable,it's amazing
somethings you don't plan on work out for the best.

I did what Joel suggested and it worked. Then what i did was this. The brake console had a little turn up where it meets up with the shift console. Right where that little center conceal plate ( if we can call it that) is. So.......I tried to bend it straight............and broke the @#&*%#@. Just a little corner, but, so much for my perfect original interior. I glued it back together, and, it don't look bad. If it's not broke, work on it till it is, is my motto.
