Thanks very much guys. I have an extra glove box door and latch that I picked up at the salvage yard to experiment on, so with all the info I have on it now I should be able to perfect my technique in a short time

Pulled from the swamps of Miami!
Its a driver and back on the road!
Not sure if you got the answer did not read through all the responses but have a 1978 and not sure if it the same as the 80's but you have to from the backside that holds the key lock get a tiny screw driver and release the inner key lock by inserting a screwdriver or similar into the opening on the back of the lock holder. The inner key lock/holer then slides out ant now the front collar/that is screwed into the main key holder is just unscrewed and the lock comes off the door.
I know it probably is not making sense but insert a pointed object into the back of the lock and it releases the key holder then it exposes the front nut that unscrews from he back... this front nut just needs to be tightened. If you have a large ratchet end that you normally stick a ratchet on just insert it into the nut and tighten it up then re-insert the key holder into the lock cylinder. BB78
