I believe the lock is held by two screws. It sounds like the screw holes in the door may be stripped to some degree. If that's the case, instead of using an oversize screw that might split the plastic, insert a toothpick along side the screw and snap it off. Then tighten down the screws.
You might also fill the holes with liquid plastic and re-tap the threads.

I too, am yet seeking one of the unsolved mysteries of the universe, how to remove the glove box lock
. these must be somewhat "year specific". I have Chevy's from '78 to '84 and they are all alike, but no screws. Not familiar with your AOL address Dan, but I'll pester you with a PM. Thanks for any light on the subject.

Joe's79 !! Great pictures of the lock but does not describe fully how to get it out of the glovebox door.
