Slammed the glove compartment door the other day a little too hard and broke off the metal clip the catches the locking mechanism. This ever happen to anyone and if so, How did you repair ?
It actually broke the plastic part that the metal bar screws into on the inside top part of glove box.
Maybe epoxy another piece of plastic over original hole and then screw in ?

Ouch

I would think you could epoxy another piece of plastic up there, if not the original piece that broke off. You might even be able to rivet a piece of sheet metal up there to screw the bar into. Don't know what kind of "meat" there is up there to work with...

Without knowing how bad the catch is damaged, it's hard to say what the best fix will be. My first thought was Joel's idea of riveting a plate up there. If it is plastic you may also take some glass cloth and resin and fashion a patch over the broken area.

made one out of a section of coat hanger years ago. bent it to shape and screwed it into the glovebox where the original was broken.

I still have the metal part. The plastic broke. I think I will follow the advice of this forum and rivet a piece of sheet metal into the existing plastic and then screw the wire into that. If that doesn't work I have a drink and forgeta bout it for another week.Wink
