does anyone have plans or know a good source for a speaker box in a convertible..

Does the vert have the two or three compartment doors behind the back seat like the later t-top cars does? If so, you could do what I did. I removed the doors, leaving the frame in place. Then, I cut out two wooden doors to the same sizes, from a solid plywood like oak or birch, cut holes in them for 6x9 speakers and covered them with carpet. I also put some "rails" around the speakers to keep the grills from getting smashed by cargo. Haven't had a chance to do final install yet, but it should work great, as that is a nice sealed compartment for the speakers...
I finished the speaker installation I mentioned above. After hearing it, I have to tell you it is an awesome improvement. Here's a recap: I replaces the radio with a high-powered Alpine Radio/CD player and installed new speakers in the factory dash and rear locations. Even with the added power, ad with tops on and windows up, the radio struggled to sound good above the road and exhaust noise. Also had surprising little bass. So, I replaced my rear storage compartment doors with carpeted 3/4" plywood and relocated the back speakers to holes I cut in these new "doors" (they lift out, no hinges). Now that they are in something much closer to a sealed enclosure, and maybe because they are closer to the ear, the difference in sound is amazing. Yesterday drove 3 hours on the interstate with tops off and windows down and was able to hear the music very well. Also, the bass is 10 times better. I highly recommend to those that don't worry about retaining factory appearance. I'll try to get pictures posted sometime...

Vette(s): 1980 currently being restored/ cutomized
Just upgraded to a new clarion head unit with remote. Does mp3/cd. Also installed 2 new amps and made a speakerbox with 3/4 inch particle board. Sounds great. I have Jbl dash speakers in the stock locations and Clarion 6x9's in corner mounts.

Did you guys use the Middle and Right spaces?,cause there is no way that would work in the battery box....But then wouldn't the speakers be too close together? I can envision a small subwoofer in just one of the spaces, then some sort of satellite arrangement. That's the trouble of being an audiophile AND a Vette lover!
