Just how much of a PITA is taking the cluster out to get to the clock?
i got a quartz replacement clock for xmas and since I have the interior tore out it seemed like now would be the time to replace it but it sounds like a horror story waiting to happen from other post so just looking for a little guidance (I don't have a problem wearing a watch).
thanks for the input.

It's not that hard to do. Worst thing is the plastic gets brittle over the years. First thing take off the carpeted side panels on the console. 3 screws per side, the one next to the seat is the hardest. There are 2 screws into the cluster from below at the front of the console. Take them out. 2 screws in the top and 1 on each side of the cluster. Remove. Pull the knobs off the clock and remove the clock nuts, they may be round with notches, use a pair of long nose pliers. Remove the screws holding the console plate in place, including the 2 from the parking brake armrest. DON'T remove it, tho. This will give you some wiggle room to get the cluster out. It may also help to remove the defroster switch for clearence. Carefully pull the cluster forward and a little down(reason for loosening the console plate) reaching behind to unplug the multipin connector(it only goes in one way). At the top there is a light connector that needs to be unplugged too. Simple!!

How much interior is torn apart? Road trip? I'm about an hour and a half away from you and could give you a hand with it.

Pretty much everything is out except the center console, all side panels, carpet everything down to  metal.  I have been painting all the trim pieces and am about ready to start putting everything back.
I may take you up on the help, you sound like you have been through it.  It will be about 3 weeks though before I can get back to it (graduations and a long awaited vacation right after).  If the offer is still good when we get back I'll see what works best for you.
Thanks for the offer - This is a great group, everyone is so ready to help. I hope someday I'll be able to return the favors.
thank you

gofast, been through ita few timesphew. This is winter 05/06 returning a stock radio to the 79...

I'm ALWAYS open for a visit by Corvette people! I love working on them, I'm obsessed. My work schedule is VERY flexible, pretty much available anytime. Hopefully no one else has ever had yours apart, that's usually when you run into problems.  Just drop me an email.     Mike
