I'm seeking a little advice here...

My horn stopped blowing.  I could tell that it was going because as it approached death it was getting more and more difficult to get it to work.  I'm pretty sure that the problem is worn contacts under the horn button on the steering wheel.  It seems like a pretty common problem.

I bought the repair kit from Eckler's and am ready to get into it, but before I do, does anyone know the best way to remove the horn button? It seem like it pops off with from gentle and friendly persuasion. DOes it go back on just as easily?

Thanx for your advice!
Jim

Hey Jim. Welcome to the site.Thumbs%20Up
I just had this problem with intermittent horn blow. Mine is a 71 so its probably not exactly the same. But mine ended up being the horn relay. If you can locate the relay check the wire coming off your horn button and see if you have juice. If so, then its not the button. I had juice coming out of the relay but lost it when I hooked up horn because it put a load on it. Someone here I'm sure knows more about an 81, and cn help you with location of relay (if there is one). Hope this helps, "T"
