ran a stop sign and almost hit my passenger side door. thank goodness this old body still has some quick reflexes and my old baby has some good brakes but a NON-WORKING horn
i have been looking at the haynes manuel today but they don't go into a lot of detail on how to pop that center out. PLEASE someone help

Ann,
I looked in the Chiltons manual (you're right - the Haynes manual was no help at all!) and they say to use a small prytool to pop the horn button off the center of the steering wheel. (Could be kinda noisy popping it back on...!!!
) Glad you were able to avoid the collision...!!!
Any engineers out there? Need to figure out how to get a laser cannon mounted discreetly out of sight so idiot drivers can get zapped before they can do something dumb again...!!!

i have always wanted to do something about those cars that pull up next to me and have their radio booming so loud it shakes the car. the best i come up with was to hit their antenna with a stun gun, i figured it would fry their radio and everything connected to it as far as stopping a vehicle you need a high powered magnetic pulse. that would sramble the electronics in the car and kill the engine

How is the horn situation?
I am kinda suprised no mentioned actually checking the horn itself.
If still no go you can always try this.
If you unplug the conector at the horn, and connect a 12V wire to the tab on the horn itself, this will tell you if the horn itself is any good. Dirt, moisture, and time do wear horns out.
If you have to, you can remove the horn, take it righ to the battery, run a wire from the tab, to the possitive side, and from the negative side to the horn mounting plate.
Just another idea.

here's the skinny on the horn> a p.o.s. former owner
at some time the horn button must have not been sticking to the middle of the column so he put a whole bunch of epoxy and putty on it and jammed it back on
so the button is off cleaning is commencing
will let everyone know if bubba did anything else to it or if i can get it working without taking it somewhere
