I have found a good set of seat belts for my 1977 but the belts I am looking at are red and I would need to re dye them to smoke gray.  Can anyone tell me what is involved in re dying seat belts.  Please let me know the potential cost and materials I would need to do this.  Thank you all for your help, I appreciate it!

You need SEM automotive interior dye.  It should be available through any automotive paint supplier.  Take a color sample of what you want to the supplier and he will be able to match the color.  SEM shoots like lacquer and it works.

Belts in my '68 were black and installed by a PO.  I needed dark blue.  Bought a quart of SEM (a quart because I was also dying other parts) and shot the belts.  No problems.  That was the mid-80's and the belts still look good.

Thank you very much, this helps a great deal.  Did you spray them while they were still in the retractors (if applicable) or when they were out?  Thanks again!

No retractors for '68.
