The trip odometer was working before I got it reset to zero.
Now it doesn't work, it stays on 0.
I must have busted the cable inside or something.
Bad luck.
My odometer was not working at all on my '75, so I completely dissembled the whole thing (not as bad of a job as I thought it would be), and replaced the shaft/gear that drives the odometer. The odometer then worked, but not the trip odometer (the reset did work). After taking it out again, I found that the beveled gear that drives the trip odometer was not being pushed back against its mating gear (this is pushed out of the way when you push in the reset knob). Evidently the spring is too weak to hold it against its mate.
Rather than pursue this further, I gave up, happy that I at least had a working odometer. I now carry a pen and paper to write down mileage for a trip (or to check the gas mileage).
