Speaker boxes in a Corvette are always a challenge, its all ways a trade off of space for speaker. If you don't need the luggage space, theres almost no limits on the box designs and speakers.. If its bass you really want, remove the passenger seat and install this......

Be sure to read the spec.s on that thing

Steve,
I used a 3/4" plywood board 9"X43". I covered the plank with a cheap black carpet, used the hard part of Velcro under it, and lade it on top of my wheel wells. A perfect fit and in over 2 years it hasn't budged. On top of the board I have 2, 6X9 Infinity Kappa's and a Alpine 360 AMP, I added 2 Infinity's 4x5's in the kit panels (No cutting, perfect fit) and 2 more up in the dash. my head unit is an Alpine and I must admit, to me it sounds great ! Crystal clear even with the tops off and BB roaring. The best part is my tops still fit under the board.
I got the idea from member Redwing vette, he had a picture posted, check the archives here under radio/stereos you might find it.
Total cost for wood, carpet, Velcro was around $18.
Thanks warbird for the info. I will have to look at my kick panels and look at getting 4X5 like you did. What about the stock speakers in the dash? Did you replace those or too hard to get to? I am actually working on a box for a woolfer that is attached to the top of the luggage area that minimizes lost luggage space. Good idea with plywood platform and Velcro. THANKS AGAIN for your input!
steve

Hey Scott, Boy that's quite a woolfer. That'll really blow your tee tops off.
Maybe I will looking for something like that for my shop and really make the neighbors angry. Thanks always neat to see new gizmo's out their....
Thanks...How much does that thing cost?? Not counting needing a new hearing aid!!

I was just just looking at some how to's on making a fiberglass speaker box for the back. There are some pretty good resources online. I'll see if I can find the links. They come out looking sweet when painted. I was thinking along the lines you were trying to maximize the space. Without a space like a trunk I'm not sure you can really get the super annoying rattle the mirrors of the cars around you effect.
79rebuild, yes I would also be interested in fiberglass enclosures.
Please keep me posted on what you find. Thanks, steve
I assume a fiberglass enclosure would be lighter than wood? How much?
Maybe 50 % less? Does anybody know?

Heres the link for making a speaker box. I'm mulling over trying to make a dash for the 79. I've done a lot of stuff but I've never worked with fiberglass before so I'm pretty clueless, but I would say that this would probably weigh a lot less than an all wood box.
If you google how to make a fiberglass speaker box youll get more info than you need. This guy's process looked pretty tight though.
