I have a Autosound AM/FM Cassette stereo that I installed in my 75 a year couple years ago. I recently added a 6 disk changer (that I already had from another car). I am not satisfied, mainly because as we all know, there just isn't much space in a coupe, even less in a covertible. I would really like to install a up-to-date stereo, with built in CD player. I know that the bezel will not accept a modern date player. I was thinking about buying another bezel and cutting it out to accept a new system. I won't cut on my original bezel, but was wondering if anyone has heard of a aftermarket replacement that will accept a cd player. I also hate to purchase a new bezel, only to cut it up. Any ideals?? Any original part I have replaced on my vette, is in storage, just in case I get rid of her one day and the new owner wants original parts. |saluteflag| |toungecool|

I don't believe there's any real alternative to buying another bezel and cutting it. Just save the original if you ever decide to put it back to stock. CD players are too wide to fit in without cutting.

In my '78 I got a new bezel and installed an Alpine CD player/stereo. It looks great and sounds better. I don't think you'll be sorry to do it this way.

I'm with Gunslinger on this. I searched all over for a replacement bezel that would accept a DIN style cd unit. There isn't one (hmm, marketing opportunity??) Just by a new bezel and use a Drelel to cut it. You'll be very pleased with the look and the sound.

Guess what !!! During my research, after posting this, I found the same question I posed. Same situation. There is a company that is making a bezel already cut out for you ($179.00), or you can send yours to them and have them do it for you ($95.00). Because of the recent email that Adam sent out, if anyone is interested in the web site, I'll send it to you, but won't post it here. Although, I will probally do as gunslinger and contrail recommended and buy another bezel and do it myself. Why else buy a dremel, unless you don't want to use it. |laugh| Thanks for the information. I thought modifying it would be the way to go, just needed someone to push me over the edge. |bouncy| |saluteflag| |cheers| |thumb|

for those who dont want to cut the bezel and leave a factory appearance, there are other options: 1) custom auto sound makes a "secret audio" stereo system that mounts wherever you want, and has a small remote mount lcd panel, or 2) same company makes twin-shaft style radios that look like factory originals right down to the manual tuner, but with cd changer controls built in. if you wanna go for a new stereo, but dont wanna go nuts, this is a good choice. i myself have a factory original 8-track that looks and works great, so im considering the secret audio.

I like the setup described and I think that for Xmas, Santa may just set me up. Thanks for all the input. |thumb| |laugh| |saluteflag|
