Vette(s): 1969 Corvette Stingray Convertible. Just bought it from my uncle who owned it since 1971. Fathom green, green interior. 350/300, T400.
I have a '69 Stingray, but it appears to have '70 green colored upholstery. The catalogs list '69 upholstery different than '70-74, what's the difference? Will '70 seat covers fit on '69 seats? Or do I need to special order a set with '69 patterns on '70 colored upholstery?
Thanks,
Matt

Hello, Matt. Two major styling differences:

(A) The shoulder harness pass-through near the top of the seat back. This feature was for '70-'75 only.
(B) The center insert channeling on '68 & '69 runs vertically. All other C3's have horizontal channeling. (Leather)

As to whether or not '70 or newer upholstery will fit? I don't think so. I am almost positive that the '68 & '69 seatbacks are shorther than the '70-'75's. (Can someone out there verify this, please?)

The perceived color difference may simply be due to 35 years of wear, fading, etc.

Hope this helps.

John

PS - You interior trim code. Is it 427 or 428? |headscratch|

Trim code is 427. I looked at the bottoms of the seats where they wouldn't get any sun, the same result.

Thanks,
Matt

The advice from "The Mother of All Shoppers" (that's my wife, by the way) would be to order what the vendor specifies for your car - being sure that they have a full value return policy. If it's wrong, they should pay the return freight as well.

The advice from the Vette owner (that's me, by the way) who sleeps with The Mother Of All Shoppers is to not put too much faith in Eckler's color chart. No offense intended either to you or Eckler's. I'm assuming (which is dangerous) that the confusion is being created by comparing a chip in a mass printing catalog to the real thing. The last owner of my car did that. And while I have wonderful new upholstery, it is the wrong shade and must be replaced.

Express your concern clearly to the vendor before you buy and make sure they guarantee the color match. Then, if it's wrong, it's their problem, not yours.

Hope this helps. Good luck! |thumb|

have you compared it to corvette central and mid america color chart also..

you should really check both of these as they all have different prices and do a price match plus if one of the other beats them.

Corvette Central is actually where I bought the seat upholestry from. I compared to Eckler's and Mid American, they both look like the '70 matches better. The upholstery they sent is blue greem, the best I can describe mine is olive or army green. The more I look, the more mine seems like a mix of '69 and '70. I held the new upholstery up to the map poket and that seems to match! Mid American is going to send me a sample of '70 upholstery to compare to, only way to know for sure.
Thanks,
Matt
