Isn't it always the way... you go to fix one thing, and something else breaks!?!?!
This past weekend I went to replace my rear-defroster switch on the console, and while taking off the old one, one of the two screw holes broke off of the console!
So now, I only have one screw holding in the new switch.
My guess is I'd have to by a whole new console to resolve this.
ARG!

Sorry to hear that Adam. And yep, there's always something! My new one is I've got the new speed sensor to fix the engine light so I can hopefully get smogged (sending regis and $ in today). But now, I've got a power steering fluid leak and I don't know where yet. Haven't had the time to get her up in the air and take a look. Will most likely have that checked if possible when I get the sensor put in in 2 weeks. lol

I hear ya Adam. When I was fixing my brakes this summer a simple leak turned into broken lines, hoses, and then while bleeding them a bleeder screw just broke off inside the caliper. The good part is that now I KNOW HOW TO FIX BRAKES!!!

I think I can top that. Went to take the car out of the garage the other day to take pics for a new insurance carrier. Moved the kids toys out of the way, which were easy to see because they are all fluorescent colors. Started backing out the can and heard a groaning noise. Thought it was the spring because it hasn't been moved in 2 months. When it got louder, I realized that I forgot to move the wheelbarrow which was resting on a small woodpile near the garage. Needless to say I scraped the LR from the bumper to the drivers door
Thank god it is mostly paint damage, but now the whole rear 1/4 panel will have to be done.
Just goes to show what happens when you are in a hurry
At least the driving season is kinda over so I can get it fixed.
(I reaize this isn't an interior problem, but it coincides with the original post about breaking stuff)

Jeeeze Chris, that sucks ! I do understand the problem, unfortunately. Last summer I stopped to get gas on one of those 95 plus degree days and the starter heat soaked and would not start. I was, as usual, in a hurry and just tried to stick my foot out and push the car and jump it in reverse. Unfortunately I was just a BIT too close to the pump and caught the door on the handle. Chipped some paint off, thank GOD no fiblerglass broke. You, Scot and I should be "poster children" for how NOT to drive a Vette at low speed.

Vette(s): 1979 Vette L48 Edelbrock Performer EPS Intake, Matching 750 carb Dk blue on Dk blue, 33,000 miles, electric fan and water pump
Here's a stroke of bad luck. Just bought my '79 a few months ago. saved a few bucks and threw in a edelbrock intake and carb. I took it to work ( mind you, I never tried to see what it would do) and gave a co-worker a ride. He said to stomp on it and see what it'll do, so I did. the next thing I hear is a (noise).
I learned very quickly that I just trashed the crank when I spun a rod bearing.
So out comes the engine. New crank, bearings, oil pump, water pump, etc... My buddy comes to help install the motor, and shorts out my starter. Put a new starter in and now I have to find out what else is trashed. The wiper motor, the fan for my (newly installed) A/C, and the factory theft system. I was down for a month, and am sure I don't need to describe the mood I was in the whole time.
Just got it running and back on the road tonight. No more free rides, guys, I bought it because I wanted a vette, not to show off performance. If I wanted that, I wouldn't have bought a C3....
And for the other type vette owners out there, you might be faster, but nothing looks as cool as a C3!

ouch thats gotta hurt. reminds me of a friend of mine that was putting his engine when his "helper" hit the handle of the hoist dropping the engine down denting the oil pan. he wound up putting the engine in and when he started it up it ran for a minute before it seized because of the oil pickup being knocked off when it hit the floor. it wasn't a c3 but it still is enough to piss anyone off.

It looks like all of us have had something go wrong at one time or another! (Mine have been self-caused!)
I was replacing the headlight switch on my baby, & had a vacuum leak, so I was pulling the instrument panel out again to repair the leak, & forgot to disconnect the battery again.....ZAP! I shorted out the new switch, & had to go & get another one.

Another time, I was working on a window switch wiring problem, & had rigged up a temporary toggle switch for troubleshooting. I went to the parts store for something, & while driving, I smelled something burning. I had bumped the switch with my knee, & the motor was running, & running, & running, & I didn't notice it until I smelled the burned out motor.

Anyone need any help with their electrical system?

Laters, all!
