Does anyone know how you can determine what the key code is for a 68 Vette?  I don't have the old knock outs but would like to know what code would have been stamped on the knockouts.  Anyone out there with a 68 have their codes.  I'd be interested to know what they look like.  I have new keys that I can stamp the codes on.  Need this for NCRS judging.

The codes may, or may not, be printed on the lock cylinders, both doors and the ignition.  Granted, that's a lot of work to read.  Instead, go to a locksmith who has been around awhile.  He can may have the different codes for different model years.  The dealers have this, but going back to 68 may be tough.

I saw an ad in my Vette magazine that has NOS keys. Their ad states
Stamped, Code Cut Keys for judging for ignition and spare locks.

I just checked Hemmings and there is a place listed that is right here in Washington.  About 5 miles from where I live.  I heard of Jessers also.  I think Jessers knows more about the Vettes.  Thanks for the names.

I've got the ignition switch out of the car.  Anyone know how to get the lock cylinder out of the switch.  There is a hole on the side of the switch that I've stuck a small punch into hoping this would spring the cylinder loose, so far no luck.  Also, there is a hole on the face where you insert the key.  Does this do anything?  Anyone ever taken the cylinder out?  Need to get it out to see if there is a code number on it.

Mark, I don't think we actually verify the codes on the knockouts. As long as you have them, you're usually OK. If you don't have one, get a judging manual for your car from NCRS, and it will tell you what sequence you should have.(number/letter or letter/number) The knockouts I have for my car are actually from a Buick we used to own!! If my memory serves me, if you stick a paperclip in the hole by the key, and turn the key, it should release the cyl. from the housing. I can't remember which way you turn it, but one way or the other should release the cyl. Jessler's can definitly set you up with the correct key setup, if you want to go that route.

OK, got the cylinder out.  Used the paper clip and pushed it into the hole on the face of the cylinder, not the switch casing as I was trying before.  Found the code 0N59 on the cylinder.

I have the key and lock for the spare tire (unfortunately its not for a 68/different key - Briggs & Stratton), but it has 4 digits stamped on the key so this looks like what I need.

Thanks everyone for the help

There would have been two letters and two nums for the code. What you found is correct. The first is the letter 'O', then 'N'(2 letters) and then the nums. (Check the manual or with Jessler's to make sure.)

I have the NCRS manual and it doesn't address the codes.  I'll check with Jesser's, as I need one door lock recoded and I'll send it to them.  That's another whole ballgame to get it out of the door.  That will be fun! At some time someone put another lock on my drivers door.  Passenger is the same as the ignition.  Its a never ending battle with an older car.  Keeps me out of the bars.
