Wife My lovely wife had windshield replaced, (her excuse for driving around town) they neglected to put the rear view mirror back. Now, don't ask me how she looked backward
I just found out myself yesterday. Oh, Yesterday was the first time I had been in the car since the windshield WAS replaced. I don't want anyone to think I don't use a rearview mirror. It needed to be replaced anyway, I just hadn't gotten around to it. Question is, how far down from the top do I mount metal button the the mirror mounts on. Could someone measure their's?

Thanks!!

My 78 measures from plastic trim above windshield to mirror bracket 2 5/8 inches. Add a little for thickness of part that slides down over bottom.
Any other questions so I can stall going off to work.

Is that center of button, or top of bracket?
looking on the out side of the winshield. go to the windshield molding at the bottom measure four inches down and center it. place one piece of tape to mark both center and four inches down. cement and from the inside of the car place bottom tab exact on top of your tape mark

Thanks!
I've always had better luck getting blue RTV to stick it to the windshield than I have the glues they provide at the parts houses. Just put a thin glaze over the metal tab, press in place and hold for a minute or so. Then tape it into place (blue masking tape comes off easy) for 48 hours, then install the mirror.
