I need to put in a new radio and the one that's in there now is not original . So I really just want a good sound system in the Babe and don't care if original or not. Give me some suggestions please! I need to know what will fit in my 76 and have good sound and I want a cd player with it

Check out www.customautosound.com They make up-to-date radios, that look like original ones. That way you get a good fit and look, but have a good sound system.

i'd suggest alpine stereos, excellent cd players. Shop around online and you will find a great deal. You can order a dash bezel from corvette specialties that is precut to fit a cd player.

I second the suggestion for an Alpine. Top quality, great sound and no more expensive than most others, depending on options. I bought mine through a local custom audio shop. I supplied a new dash bezel and they did a beautiful job of cutting the opening and installing the stereo.
There are definitely other good brands out there, but for the money, Alpine is hard to beat.

You could always modify an original radio with an input for a CD that can be remote mounted. Avoid the custom autosound radios, they are crap from what people have told me. Check ou what this guy can do to the originals. Do you want people to hear you coming from a few blocks away? No problem....

If you go with the Alpine or other modern radio you may want to check this out:

This kit (or complete bezel) will make the install look very clean and original looking.

P.S. I have to go with the Alpine. Awesome sound!
