All,
I need to completely replace the seats in my 80. Do the replacement sets from Ecklers include the plastic backs and bottoms? Or, do I have to purchase seats, foam, plastic backs/bottoms, hinges, hinge bolts, hinge covers, blah blah blah??? I would rather bite the bullet and have seats to bolt into the car and get it over with.
I'll be ordering the carpet set, door panels, armrests, doors and covers for the rear area.
I've had the car for 3 weeks, and have stopped all other hobbies to devote time to my new toy. Know what?? I LOVE it. Especially every time someone at the gas station walks over and makes a positive remark. I forgot how much fun it was 20 years ago.
Please help!!
Thanks so much for your time.
Regards,
Kevin in Cincinnati

Kevin,
Hopefully another member will come to my " rescue " here and add some info. I know there is an outfit who goes to Carlisle and puts on convertible tops out there in front of GOD and everyone to help promote their business. I know this cause one of my club's members had it done last year and was thrilled with the job. I don't know if they give any discount when they do it in Carlisle. I don't know their name but can get it.
Anyhow, there might be a business that does the same thing with seats. If anyone knows about a business doing this maybe you will supply a name. Kevin, I don't think you are too far of a drive to go and get it done in Carlisle. Carlisle is a great experiance and I am sure it would probably be a fun for you if you had your seats done there.
Just my 2 cents, I don't want Rick to forget me.

Vette(s): 1979 Black coupe. 11256 original, documented, miles on it when I bought it in April of 2000. It now has 13100 on it. Oyster interior, like new. Everything original, everything works, except the clock. Paint has a couple of minor flaws.

Kevin,
The seat cushions on my vette come out very easily. They are held in place by a 3/16ths wire, that runs into the foam, and goes around mounting hooks on the seat frame, or plastic. You just push against the seat cushion, and it will unhook, and come out. Do it carefully though.
The frames, if they are in good condition, can be dyed, or painted, and the foam can be recovered, with new material. Don't replace everything, unless it is necessary. It is very expensive. If everything is in real bad condition, by all means, replace it. Make sure the foam is in good shape, too.

Guys,
Thanks a bunch for your help. The reason I figured that new seats may be in order is because the drivers side plasic seat bucket (top part, behind my back) has a big crack all the way across. If I buy one, shouldn't I buy them all?
I'm going to search for a link to Carlisle. Do I have to register to take my car? It's looking like a little road trip may be in order. I need to hurry and fix my drivers side window. That was the only thing that wasn't working when I bought the car 3 weeks ago. (besides the windshield wipers....lol...a little RAIN X should fix that nicely)
I appreciate all your help. The advice is invaluable, and it would be fun to see you guys up there.

Dudes,
Thanks a bunch for the info. Unfortunately, I will not be able to make the Carlisle trip. My paint buddy is going to try and squeeze me in between other customers, and he may need the car that weekend.
However, I may try and contact the seat guy on my own.
BTW, just ordered the mother load from Ecklers.
(Full carpet set w/heat shield, armrests, kick panels, screwset, rear compartment doors, lower front spoiler rubber, floormats, seat covers. )

Now, a word to you guys.
Tom, I would have killed to be able to afford an early 70's big block car. Yours is awesome, and the picture in the barn is classic.
Glenn, I'm usually more of an obsessive STOCK wheels and tires guy, but your orange machine is killer. The paint, sidepipes, and wheels, really make the car look unique. Both your guys cars are the best. Thanks for all your help.
Is there any way to see some more shots of these 2 fine machines?
Much thanks, and high regards as always,
Kevin in Cincy

Kevin,
Thanks for the nice words. Unfortunately I have nothing to do with the way the car looks. It was the way you see it when I bought it. The guy who did the restoration asked me a few weeks after I bought the car if I would sell him back the wheels. I told him no thank you, the guy who put them on had very good taste. :-) He cursed my under his breath and then we both chuckled and that was the end of that.
