eddie20875(david), I recently took my door panels off my 76, they were the delux panels, and also had no screws in the panel, now I'm wondering
KOPBET 2007-05-23 16:53:42
do they use the clips and screws or just the 5 pairs of velcro clips. The
previous owner had them glued on, I had some time getting the panels off. I would like to remount them correctly. Does ant one know the correct
way
Don't know about the '76, but the '73s had screws. Perhaps someone could check the assy manual.
Your car's PO used glue??? WFT???
These panels hook on the metal frame at the top, have the "velcro" plastic gizmos in a few places around the edge, have a metal clip on the lower front and lower rear, and also have the screws that hold in the pull straps. The two screws at the front top and rear top appear to be more decorative than functional since the panel will remain on just fine without them

Thanks to all for the kind commentary!!!

Just got done doing my 76 door panels, top dash, referbishing the lower dash panels and the center concole & guges, main besel and an original AM/FM radio (the original was removed), the brake console, Replaced the wiper switch and heater blower switch, then foil backed fiber insulation for the floor and new carpet, rcovered and refurbished both seats including new seat backs, uh I guess you could say I've done most everything for the interior. I also replaced the floor pans. LOL....
Anyway, what I was going to say is that, YES, the 1976 door panels have screws and metal clips as well as the five plastic velcro type clips to hold the door panels in place. They lip over the top of the door edge at the window slot and then push into place on the plastic clips. Then you screw them down at the metal clips and the then use the chrome decorative screws to secure them at the top front of the door panel. Not a real difficult job putting them on. There was more work getting all the trim and doe dads on the new panels. I have a few pics I took after the work was done if anyone would like to see them. Just let me know...
WHich reminds me, I put my interior in back in all Black and Chrome. Did away with the wood grain. I am also not putting the carpet strip down along the bottom edge of the doors so I will have the original metal door trim with the wood grain panels intact and the chrome carpet top trim with the carpet pieces for sale in the next week. I was going to put them on ebay if anyone is interested in them let me know. The replacement wood grain and chrome panels in the catalogs are going for $169.00 each for repro's...

fedexbicman76, you mentioned you replaced the floor pans, were they
rusted out, because mine also need to be replaced. Did you cut them out
and weld new ones in, and did you do both sides. I'll probably have
a shop do mine, i don't have the tools or know how and the time. Who did
you get the replacements from.
Is there a panel manufacturer out there who cuts the panels for you so you can just pop them on?
I know Al Knoch will install door lock bezels for you upon request for an additonal charge. I don't think they cut holes for the window crank but you might want to ask. However that aspect of the install is not that difficult. You just have to make sure the hole is big enough to go all the way over the end of the crank mechanism.

Tonyb47, yes, I did repair my floor pans. I guess I should have stated it that way. I was going to replace the complete floor pans but, I had a shop look at them and they said that they didn't need to be completely replaced and that they could repair them with a wire welded panel that would be a complete match-in. They did a great job. The cut out the front section of the floor pan from the riveted section to a foot toward the middle of the floor just before the rise of the foot well. They matched them in very well I think. They only charged me $30.00 per side plus $5.00 bucks per side for the material. Not sure how bad yours are but, you might consider the repair over the replacement. I have a set of used floor pans I got from a wrecked 1979 that are in pretty good condition. No rust. Was gonna offer them up for sale but, just haven't gotten around to it yet. Bought them, removed them and then never used them. They aren't perfect by any means but, still can be used. Passenger side has a wrinkle that I couldn't quite get straightened out completely but, that would be covered by carpet anyway.
My pans are pretty bad, i got a estimate from a corvette shop, new floor panels are about $250.00 each side, and estimated 15hrs labor. The whole
job would be about $2000. He would cut the panels out just below the rivets and leave the transmission tunel alone, its in good shape, and weld
the new panels in. you got a real bargin. i recently met a guy that works on corvettes at a cruise nite and offered to look at my panels, and said he would be a lot cheaper

Yep, I did get a great deal. That is why I jumped on it. The 15 hours labor isn't out of line. With removing the seats and insulation, seat belts and related material. It took me 4 hours to cut out the floor pans from the wrecked 79. The seats and everything else was already gone.
