First it was my drivers seat back that won't fold forward.I was albe to live with that but now all of a sudden my pass seat won't fold forward.Anybody know what I did? and how to fix. It's almost impossable to put the t-tops in the back now,HELP!!!It acts like it's in a lock mode or something. If I have to remove the plastic hinge covers with the acorn nuts how do you go about doing this. By the way this is for an 82,power drivers seat.zgator38604.8075115741

Check out this THREAD on the same problem. It should give you some ideas.

zgator,
I can't believe you haven't fixed those seatback locks yet!!!
Once you get the bottom seat cushion out, which was real easy, the screws are very accessable.
I sprayed some quick drying lube on the weights and no more problems.
Let me know how you make out.
It's not very often when I actually have something positive to contribute here.

Dwright.you are right.I've been a slacker.I did pull the seat bottom out a little and saw two screws located on the seat bucket I think. Are those the ones I have to take off to get to the problem?

Ok.I took the seat bottom off and the three screws that hold the seat back. Now I'm not that smart in that I see the hing stuff but I don't know how it works so therefore I don't know what to look for to fix.I don't have to do the same to the other side of the seat do I ? The side by the counsel

There is a small weight, that acts like a pendulem, in each of the hinges. When you hit the brakes, the weight swings forward, engaging a lock for the seatback, preventing it from moving forward.
The small weight is stuck in the forward position.
It might be stuck in only one hinge or they might both be stuck.
When I loosened up the 3 screws for the driver's side outer hinge, the hinge freed up, so I didn't go any farther.
If it is still stuck, try sliding something thin inside the hinge to free up the weight. It shouldn't take much.

Dwright: Hell I've got the darn seat out now.I don't understand how the hinge works, wait let me rephrase that I know how the hinge works I just can't understand why it won't, but it was getting dark so I'll have a go at here in a few min.I took all three screws out.Are you saying you didn't.You just lossened them. One more question. This slider thing,What will prevent this from sliding down again?I haven't locked up the brakes or anything that would make it operate the way GM intended.Anyway thanks for the help and the kick in the ass to get me started.

Are they both fixed now?
Everytime you apply the brakes, that weight swings forward.
I imagine over time it collects dirt and grime and eventually sticks. So it may happen again.
Now you know if you want to get your seat repolstered, it's easy.
Of course, those Collector Edition seats will cost you extra.

dwright; I've already thought ahead and got a set of covers from Al Knock.I also got a new carpet set,and y next week I should have my door panels(Al Knock) gotta support the vendors on this site.I figured that I'm not selling this Vette. It's a real low mile car so the interior is all good right now but I've got it covered down the line.Once again thanks a bunch.
