I took my drivers sill plate to look at the condition of my floor pan.. it looked good..

what didnt look good was the cracked and torn rubber mat.. and the old carpet in the original color that was under my current carpet... not to mention my top layer of carpet that pretty much fell apart when i pulled it up..

WHY ME!!

why do people who own vettes and decide to sell them always do crackhead stuff like this ?

anyway. I ordered a complete set from wilcox... i heard his carpet sets were good..

a black cut pile (yes i know 80/20 came with the car) press molded set..

while i was at it I bought a new rubber mat set and thermal insulation..

I let you know how it goes.. probably get to it saturday..

Hey Ben, maybe you know this already, but laying the individual carpet sections in the sun (for those lucky enough) will make it mold around tight corners better. Helped me terribly.

Hey Ben I also got my carpet from Wilcox. Looks and fits great. I bought most of my stuff from Wilcox and had very good luck.

I did willcox, carpet came from that Pennsylvania outfit, Corvette America. I did not think much of it, kind of looked like peach fuzz. After it is down and you vacuum it, it starts to look very good. Do not use a mallet or rubber hammer to mold it down. It will split very easily, as it is thin, thin, thin. You can go to Lowes or Home Depot to get insulation as a base. Go to the hot water tank section, cost about $32.00 for a roll. You may need two rolls, if you are doing the whole car. That insulation is aluminum backed, looks just like the stuff the distributors sell.
I laid the old on the new for a pattern, cut it out, and used 3M spray adhesive to attach. I put a lot of extra in areas that Chevrolet did not. After all done, start the engine up, very quiet inside, and no road noise. |saluteflag| |cool|

The original carpet may have been left there for insulation. By all means, install insulation.

It's kind of like a roof Ben. Too many layers make the roof too heavy. Don't want to overload that BB and slow it down! |laugh|

When I pulled the carpet out of mine, I found the remains of the brightest red shag one could ever imagine! |headscratch| dark blue car, medium blue interior and bright red shag carpet? Now there's a fashion statement |thumb|
