I installed new pillar post moulding last year when I redid my interior. I have not been happy with the fit since I did the job. I got my car out for a little cruise and clean up session yesterday. While working on it, I noticed the pillar post moulding again. The top is screwed down tight and the bottom is held in by the dash and the middle by the vette version of velcro. The middle section does not fit my car for sh#@. I have tried to hold it in place with some clamps but as soon as the clamps come off the molding goes back to its screwy position.

Anyone have any ideas on how to make these pieces fit better? What did you do to get an acceptable fit out of these pieces?

Thanks for any help you may be able to give.

Eddie, I just looked at an old molding piece I have, it is made of steel with foam and vinyl covering. The only thing I can think of is yours may be deformed or bent causing your poor fit problem. Maybe it can be removed and bent slightly and gently so the fit can be correct without stressing the fasteners?  I saw this post in the other place as well, hope this helps.

I have a 70 Vert also.

I would suggest that if you have a nice warm sunny day leave it out in the sun and work it from there. I have a pair ofNOS mouldings and they are almost identical to the shape of the Corvette America pieces in shape which I bought before I found the NOS pieces.

I am assuming you are having trouble around the VIN tag. It is a pain but if you get your mouldings good and warm but not too warm, they will take the form of the pillar post much better. Be careful because if the vinyl gets too hot it may start to delaminate. You may also have some slight creasing on the inside of the moulding that may keep it from going up tight against the post. Once you get it good and warm try to manipulate the vertical edges so that they have to be opened up to snap over the post. Then the moulding will kind of sandwich and grip the post and stay in that shape once it cools down.

The interior on these cars can be a real challenge to restore. Mine has been a royal pain in the rear.

Good Luck and I hope this helps.

Bill

I have had trouble around the VIN number on sharks in the past. What has worked well for me is to use a hand held hot air blow dryer and 3M spray on adhesive for replacement pieces. Note; Eddie I love the looks of your car. I am presently working on a deal for 69 BB car. If the deal goes through rest assured there will be a 69 in Indidana that has a close resembence to a Tennessee 70!
