Topic: Quick carpet question
in Forum: C3 Interior
Thanks for all the help on interior packages. I placed the order and almost everything is in (can't wait to get started).
The question is when the carpet arrived today I was looking it over and noticed there are already two holes in the front sections (both sides) they look like the holes where the rear seat mounting bolt might be. Did any of you who have gotten new carpet have holes in them already?
I see on the packing that they will not accept any returns once cut so want to make sure this is standard.
Thanks for your help again.
gofast (but mostly in summer)
gofast, I replaced my carpet last year and it had NO holes for any of the seat mount bolts or the seat belt bolts or electrical connections for the seat belt buzzer in it. I ordered mine from Riks corvette but think it was actually shipped from Corvette America.
Did mine last fall. no holes.
Don't know if this is any help but, I was reading the assembly manual for my car recently (I read that and the shop manual for entertainment, but then don't we all?) and remember seeing it make reference to "holes in carpet must line-up with the mounting locations for the seats", or something to that effect , on the carpet installation instruction. At least thats what it said for 1981.

If your holes are indeed for the seat bolt tracks so be it. You would be putting holes in the piece irregardless. Sure beats having to ship it back and wait some more...

[/QUOTE] Is your carpet from ACC.I ordered mine from Al knock and I got ACC.I was pretty dissapointed because I've delt with ACC in the past (several times)and I do not like their quality. Also, no holes.I tired to get away from ACC and thought AK had his own from what I'd read.I've got mine all layed out and covered up with an old sheet.Every one in awhile I'll vacume them.I've got piceses of carpet that I won't use.Like the stroage compartment doors.I bought a new on from Dewitts before he sold that part of his co.I also have new seat covers and I'm going to get new door panles. This is for my 82CE so the door panles and seat covers are a litte more $$ than the standard 82 stuff. My 82CE had 32,000 when I bought it.I've put some more on it as I drive my cars.Anyway, all that stuff I got I really done need yet but I figured if I waited until I did need them the price will have gone up considerly. The stuff I've got now was bought almost 2 yrs. ago.I see that the price has allready gone up on some. Thanks for all the input. This will be baby's first new interior since she was built so can't wait to see how she looks.

To do this you need a couple of pieces of Heat Seem Tape from anyplace that sells carpet. (They will probally just give it to you once you tell them how little you need.) Roll over your new carpet to the back side. Place the tape with the wax bead side down, lay a clothing iron on it, (heat turned to high) until the wax melts through the tapes paper back, let cool.
Now using your old carpet as an overlaying template cut the new carpet to exact OEM measurements.
It will be perfect and nobody will ever know until it is removed 31 years from now at the next restoration...

I was not to hot on sending it back as all the pieces matched pretty well and if I returned it and got another piece who knows if it would match the other pieces as well. I would guess they use same dye and manufacture lot to do sets. Man, I am iching to get started but the weather just refused to cooperate here in the midwest.
