Rod,
I did the original radio conversion also, but I have not put the dash back together yet.
As for speakers, I bought a pair of 6x9's & 2 individual enclosures. They are made of MDF & covered in gray material that I sprayed (black) w/ dye to match my interior. I also bought a pair of 4x6's for the front that I have to fab some brackets for.
Just a thought,
Anthony

Rod, as long as you don't work for the company, or receive any considerations($$$ or free product), you can mention the name of the folks that did your conversion.
If you're happy with the quality of the work, and all that, then it's good to share that info, so others can check it out. Same as when you get shafted by someone...spread the word!

The radio is great when completed. The sound I am sure he will be happy with. I wish I could find a good pair of speakers that would fit into the rear without taking up storage space and that I could conceal without them being in view. I will keep searching!

Rod7515,
About 2 years ago a member showed me how he mounted his rear speakers. I followed his instructions, and I very pleased with the results.
All it took was a piece of 1/2" plywood 43" long X 8" wide. I covered it in black carpeting (cheap Home depot stuff) about $10, mounted 2 6X9's on each end staple a small piece of velcro under each end of the board and lay it over your wheel well !
Nothing has moved, rattled or came loose in 2 years, and I still have room for my t-tops ! My rear light is blocked but that's due to the amplifier that's laying in between both speakers. The whole thing cost me about $20. Not including the speakers.
If you have any more questions on this particular setup let me know.
Well my friend and I hooked up his "digitized" radio today, and I must say the sound was disappointing.
The strongest signaled radio stations received sounded decent, but once you turned the volume up the music became distorted.
Before I make my final judgment, I want to try to connect a CD player to see how it plays.
I am sorry to hear that. I can not be happier with mine. Now keep in mind that I am an olddddd man and I dont listen to loud music, however I have turned mine up and I didn't notice distortion. I still have not found an acceptable solution for the back speakers so for now they are just laying there but I must say I am very happy with the sound quality and also the signal is great. It evens works great sitting in my block wall garage. We went for a ride last night and even the wifey commented on how nice it was to be able to listen to the radio. Now keep in mind when I bought this vette it had only one 35 year old speaker working! I hope you get your radio straightened out. Again I couldn't be happier with mine, well might be happier if they did it for free!
