Is it possible to remove the rear window in all 68 -72 vettes? It seems that it would help out a lot. I have been looking at buying a 70-72 car but most of the owners don't know if the back window will come out. It was not an option so it must have been a standard feature? |headscratch|

Vette(s): SOLD - "The Toy" - '70 Convertible
SOLD - "The Beast" - '90 ZR-1 (#682)
SOLD - "Betty" - '28 Ford Model A Tudor
Sold - "BLKBRRD" - '78 Pontiac Trans Am
"BLUBYU" - '04 Coupe
The rear windows were removable from '68-'72 and fixed from '73 on. Thought I saw a thread that discussed a kit for converting a fixed window to a removeable but didn't see it in a quick surf of this forum or the Body forum.

Anyone remember where that thread is? |headscratch|

Jim - as I recall that thread asked about converting a '73 or '74 fixed to become removable. I thought it was in interior but maybe it's in body.

As for '68-'72's - yes they all come out. My experience with chrome bumper vette ovners is that they either take out the rear window often (like me) or they never take it out at all. I find that it's really great at helping draw heat out of the car. I even had it out during rain one time but since I was moving forward, no water came in. (I thought that stopping was actually a bad idea.)

I will say that I often have to fight with the latches to get it back in place & I often leave smudgey fingerprints all over the glass. Oh well -- it's the price you pay & there's always Windex.

Here's a thread that describes my conversion on my 77 vette:

Not a large amount of information, but here is the link to the body section post discussing it. I hope.
