Topic: Removed dash

I just got back from a short vacatiion...I'll look up the answers to your questions & get back in a day or 2
Alan
worked on the dash again yesterday, and got the vacuum doors working, I think the problem was I disconnected the vacuum lines off the head light switch, I hooked the vacuum lines back up and started the car to build up the vacuum and retested all the doors all are
working except the fresh air door behind the left kick panel. Will tackle
that next.

All I can tell you guys is to be careful when re-installing the Dash Pad...
I had a mouse under the dash in my 76 a few years ago and I had the dash out what seems like a million times...never had a problem UNTIL
the last time...
You need to smack the dash with your hand to "seat" it and the damn
thing cracked (the vinyl cracked)... SOB.... so be careful !
Usually at Carlisle they have dozens of pads...BUT not this year kind of surprised me....only found a few and they were worst then mine...
Did pick up the complete screw kit for all the dash for 19 bucks however... after taking my dash in and out so many times I have no clue where each screw really belongs...
Hey you all, thanks for the radio advise. I've been eyeing that Kenwood in the Corvette America catalog. Also looking at the Blaupunkt with 230 Watts. The Kenwood has the CD-R/CD-RW.....that's a plus to me. Not sure if the Blaupunkt has both (doesn't say). The Pioneer XM Radio sound good too!! I wonder if that has the CD player in it too.
What about speakers in the back?? I was thinking about box speakers, but there's not much room back there. I saw that Soundbar System in the Catalog that fits in the cargo area. Does anyone have those in their car? Maybe that would be too much with some really good 4X6's in the kick panels??!!!
Knotacare - where did you get the Pioneer and what do you have in your kick panels? Anything in the back?? I need to fix some wiring too and replace the relay for the air conditioning. How long did it take to rewire??
I purchased the Pioneer Model DEH-P80MP from Harmony Computer ( they had the best price) The XM turner P920XM I purchased on E-bay. The radio has a switch to go from 40X4 watts or 60X4 watts. I Have Poke 4X6 speaker in the kick panels & Boston boxed 6X9's in the back. This radio also plays MP3's so I can combine up to 10cd's on 1 cd. So out came the cd changer & amp. The rewiring took me 2 weeks or about 60 hours total. I'm still waiting for my digital gauges so I'll have to take it apart again. Mine was a wiring nightmare...lucky the whole thing didn't go up in flames. Install a battery disconnect it's the best protection against wiring problems.

My 73 had 4X6's in the kick panels from a PO (they fit them in the door post so it did not effect the A/C). I removed them and put a pair of 4X10's in the back. I used two speaker boxes I bought at a stereo shop. I placed a shelve across the wheel wells so I still have space for to store the T-tops. http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/565523/4

Guys,
There is an older thread on this with a lot of detail. I followed Brians (Redwingvette) suggestion on the rear speaker board, it was so easy, looks good, cost less that $20 and worked great. I can't recall what member posted my finished pictures (Sorry) but I covered mine with cheap carpet from HomeDepot $3, painted it black using fabric paint $5, the 1/2 inch plywood 43''X9'' (perfect fit, no drilling, just lay it over the wheel wells) in cost $2, and the glue for the fabric was $6. I can still store my t-tops in the back.
I also installed an amp between the rear speakers, also a perfect fit.
As for the stereo, I used an Alpine, I've heard a lot on negative feed back from many people, including our members on the quality of the radio's offered by AutoSound, Eckler's etc. The 4X6 Infinity's fit perfect behind my kick panels (they are the slimest speakers). They haven't interfered with my AC. The system sounds awesome.
My setup is similiar in the back I have 10" woofers mounted in boxes
over the wheel wells, with a amplifier mounted against the back wall between the speakers, After removing the kick panels, i discovered
4"x6" speakers may fit, for now I may use the speakers in the dash.Do you rememeber what the 4x6 infinity's cost
Tony,
The Infinty's were their top of the line Kappa 2 ways. The pair cost me around $85 and the rear 6X9 Kappa's 4 ways went for $120. Even though they are pricy they were worth it. BTW, I purchase a replacement radio bezel for $99 and cut out the hole to fit the Alpine. I have the original radio & bezel put away.
What radio are you planning to use ? If you're looking for a radio let me know, I may be able to help you out. I'm less than an hour away from you.

Alen-I'm going to get the battery disconnect........Thanks!
