It takes a special "Torx" bit, if its not a regular 1" socket type. I believe it is a #500 torx. Not a #50, but a #500. It is a little different than a normal torx size. You might be able to borrow, or rent one from one of your local auto-parts places.
Well, I was close! The part # has a 500 in it!
Here's the one I have.....

Be aware the bolts attaching the belt anchors to the floor may well be rusted shut on the frame side due to years of exposure. When I replaced the seat belts in my '78 the bolts wouldn't move after being doused with WD-40 and the strongest impact wrench I had. It took having heat applied before the bolts loosened and even then I replaced them afterwards. Consider getting replacement bolts ahead of time through most any of the Vette parts suppliers.
Gunslinger's right. do yourself a favor and douse them a few times with your favorite penetrating oil. I busted a the first bit I bought. had no problems after soaking a few days with PB Blaster.
Also, there are a number of good threads about carpet installation with helpful hints in the archives. if you haven't, you should do a search. time well spent.
