Ok, for this 6'2" guy it's getting to just be a pain in the back to get in and out of the car. That big stock steering wheel makes it difficult to enter/exit the vehicle. Do I need a special puller to remove the steering wheel or is it just bolted on? 71 vert with no tilt steering column. I also have power steering, so going to a smaller diameter steering wheel won't be a big deal. I might put in a tilt column one day too....

If you just change the wheel itself, you just remove the screws holding it to the hub. If you are going to change to an aftermarket type wheel, you will have to change the hub, also, which normally requires a puller.

Disconnect the battery! That is unless you want the horn to sound as you pull it all apart. With two people it's very easy, one holds the wheel and the other taps the end of the column with a soft faced hammer. It should pop straight off. Saves buying a purpose built puller.
I made my own puller out of a piece of metal and 2 bolts...tighten the bolts down and it pops right off.
