Vette(s): 1969 Corvette Convertible. 350/350HP engine, power steering, 4 speed, burgundy exterior, black interior, black top, stainless steel brakes and optional hardtop. Rally wheels.
I've got a 69 Convertible with a temp gauge that has a max reading of 280 degrees. I think the 69s gauge was only a max of 250 degrees. The gauge rarely records a temp above the lowest point even in hottest weather so I think it's the wrong one. Anyway, I got one from eBay with green letters and numbers and max of 250. How much trouble is it to replace the gauge and what has to come apart? Any help will be appreciated. |headscratch|

You have to take the right side lower dash off to assist with access. Then you need to loosen the metal gauge cluster housing. It has screws on both sides, one at the top and two into the lower console (where shifter is at). You may be able to just loosen the console ones. You're trying to gain working room! You cannot just take the gauge out from the rear. All of the gauges come on a separate housing that attaches to the main upper console plate. Once you remove the gauge housing from the back of the center outer housing, then you can actually remove the temp. gauge. Its not a fun job, as the radio get in the way, etc. The biggest problem is gaining access room. To unloosen the bottom nuts on the center main console, you can take off the two side panels and reach your hand up underneath. The nuts are just in front of the fiber optic panel lights. Its not a fun job. Not complicated, you just need time and small hands.
