Hey Folks!  I just recently placed an order for a replacment circuit board for my 1982 tachometer.  In preparation, I've gone ahead and removed the tach.

There's some rusting that's occurred on the tach face and I wanted to get your insight as to the best way to remove it.  I thought about using my Dremel to "sand" it away....or using some chemical(s) like CLR on it.  I obviously don't want to scar the face and/or remove any of the graphics.  I'd love to hear your advice!

Let me know what you think and as always, I really appreciate the advice in advance!

Thanks!

Wow I dont know, those things are pretty touchy,as long as your pulling it out anyway why don't you by a new face for it ?the paint on those things isn't very thick, once you start rubbin on it ,it's gonna be all over Confused

Thanks Ron.  I thought about that.  I looked around a few of my online 'Vette parts stores...but I couldn't seem to find anywhere where they sold just the face.  Do you know of someone?
Thanks,

Jeff,

Call Roger @ Corvette Instruments.com.

If he doesn't have the face, he can restore yours at a fair price.  He does a lot of the restorations for Corvette Central, Ecklers, etc.

I sent him all of my gauges and saved a lot of money going to him directly.

Good luck,

Anthony

Clocks By Roger as mentioned.........very good people. He can store it to brand new condion. He has the upgraded circuit boards that have newer electronic components that wasn't in existence when Chevy was making the boards. The new stuff is much more reliable. corvette440hp2008-04-14 17:59:16

I found another potential option too....covering your gauges with overlays...

Here's a link on some on eBay...

Anybody have any experience with this type of thing?

Thanks,
Jeff

Vette(s): 1972 conv, 4-speed, 350, 200hp, numbers match, rally wheels, war bonnett yellow w/white top. good condition, nice driver.
Speaking of tachs, I have a 72 with a cable drive. On the way home from THE GATHERING it started jumping mildly, slow reading and just gave up the ghost. What is the best way to replace it? Does the steering column have to be dropped? How much other stuff has to be disconnected before the panel can be accessed? THANKS
