You may want to look at THIS OLD POST regarding the spring and a search for "door spring" will probably turn up more information as well.  The bent screwdriver tool is a "must" tool for installation and works well.  Be sure to mask or somehow cover the OUTSIDE of the door next to where you will be working on the spring to prevent the spring from scratching / chipping paint if it slips during installation.

Mask off the door and the fender for sure.  The tool from Rik's is a must.  Suggest that you take out the hinge bolts on the door, support it from the back on a jack stand or hang it from something, slide the door back as much as you can and be careful.  It is not fun and you will probably draw blood.

Also, while you are there, change the hinge pins.  They are cheap and are probably worn out.

I'm sure your done by now but like they say take the door off the hinge pins makes it a lot easier.
The tool makes it easier also. The tridk to it is know if it goes up or down. In taking the spring out it was like get the bent screw driver in there and pry the spring out from the top knotch and then tap it down with a hammer and it falls right out.  So to put the spring in set it in place and pry the spring in and tap it up and it slides right in. loking at the spring and notch and then the hinge once yo have done one you get the idea. it does make a difference. Hope this helps but hard to explain but  its pry the top and then tap it up or down depending if your installing or removing.  BB 78
