My CE has seat backs that fold forward, I assume most all C3's have seats like this. I am wondering if there were any forward/backward adjustment hinges or ratcheting/locking hinges ever available? The current 'laid back' posture of the seats is uncomfortable on long road trips and it seems likely other people have the same complaint.
Anybody with any ideas or knowledge?

The seat from '68-'78(except pacers) did have adjustable seat backs. From '79 up(and '78 Pacers), as far as I know, the seat backs were not adjustable.

Thanks!  I have also noted on several occasions my seats would not lean forward, some small piece of something had them jammed. On the drivers seat I removed a small piece of metal that looked like it could have been a locking mechanism at one time. The passenger seat also has 'locked up' but it released itself and became moveable again. I cannot envision a simple hinge causing the seat to become immoveable. Otherwise there is nothing else wrong with the hinge.

The later(79 up) seat DO have a locking feature that sticks occasionally...it is an inertia-type lock, so it supposed to only lock the seatback under heavy deceleration, but sometimes the thing sticks. There are a couple of other posts about this in the interior forum.

I had the same problem with my driver's seat locking up. I took the cushions out and removed the hinge, cleaned it up, lubed it and put it all back together.
There are some pics that show it in my Car Domain site below. Click on MY PICS, then click on page 5.

As for an adjustment to the backseat, that is a feature my wife would love. Except she wants it to recline so she can snooze while I drive.Shocked
