What’s the secret to remove the outer seat belt ‘Torx’ bolts?  The console ones gave me no problems.  I broke my Torx socket on the first outer one I tried.  I’m installing new carpet and don’t want to cut around these.

Steve,

I just did this on my'68.

Spray them with a penitrating lube (Liquid Wrench, PB Blaster.. etc.) for a day or 2 from the inside & bottom.  Put the proper torx socket in the bolt & give the socket a decent whack with a hammer.  This should break the rust & allow the penetrant to soak in.

After a day or so soak, make sure the socket is fully seated before you attempt to twist it out, and give it one more whack.  This should free the bolt for removal.

This worked for me...............Hope it works for you.

Good luck,

Anthony

In my '78 the outer bolts were a royal pain. Penetrating oil didn't help at all. Eventually heat had to be added to break them free.

When you re-install them or replace them, add some anti-seize Loctite to the threads.

If you can find the torx size to fit on an impact driver (the kind you hold in your hand and strike the end w/a hammer) AFTER a few days of PB Blaster may help.
