Getting ready to R/R both seat belts in my 78. I'd like to know what kind of a tool is used to remove
the attaching bolts? They look like some type of large torx driver might be called for.
thanks

It's a TX500 bit. A little weird sized, but that's what it be. A regular TX50 bit will not work very well, as the TX500 bit has more squared off splines than a regular torx bit.

Thats what I used to take out the belts from my friend's 1974 Vette. Works like a charm !!

I've heard the T47 would work, but was skeptical...I also heard the normal T50P(torx plus) would work, but it won't...the shoulders are too wide.
Can't help on the belt lights deal, but it should just be a simple wiring plug-in connector...

I just tried the R2 on my seat belts and luckily the TX50 worked very well as in no stripping out or in. Unfortunately the belt set I purchased from Ecklers were much less than quality etc. The retractors did not work very well, seemed like the inertia reel/spring just did not workthey way it was supposed to. I even tried to swap sides and turn them upside down with no luck. Unlimited pulls finally got most of the belt out but it was still short in the total length area. They had no alignment tabs like the oem's so go know exactly how they really should mount. Sent them back to Ecklers today.
Anyone out there in C3 land that has a set of used in decent condition red sb's for a 78 just let me know and perhaps we can make a deal!!!!!!

I purchased new belts at the corvette show at carlisle pa and got a discount. The brain is slow but it was either mid america or corvette america I will check but similar situation with the inertia reels. I found that if I try pulling across and so much forward they do come out full for the size and bucket ok. They are of a thinner material then the origial ones but it was probably far cheaper then refurbishing the originals. I will get back on who I got them from BB78

Hey BB78,
I am glad that someone out there got a good deal. As for me after pulling, twisting, jerking etc I came the the conclusion that the sb's were sub standard, so I just put the oe's back in. Even though they have no recoil mechanisim at least they just about cover my torso. Musta been some pretty small folks that bought vettes in the 70's. Even with my belts fully extended they just about reach the buckle.
